Musica Viva Manawatū
‘Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything.’ Plato
Join us for our live performances each month in the Evelyn Rawlins Room at Square Edge. Enjoy the sounds of many eras and styles performed by local pianists, instrumentalists, singers, soloists and ensembles. All are welcome.
In addition, Musica Viva offers a Young Performers’ Scholarship competition for local musicians under 30 years. Prizes are offered in Piano, Instrumental and Vocal categories. Participants perform an item in our April–September concerts, with the competition taking place in October. Applications to participate in the YPS programme close in mid-March.
Musica Viva celebrated its centenary in 2025. A new competition was inaugurated - the Young Composers' Scholarship which will be a biennial event alternating with the Accompanying Workshop. Another milestone marker was the publication of a book - Living Music - A Century of Community Music by Guy Donaldson and Russell Poole. Living Music is available at Bruce McKenzie Booksellers Ltd.
