 Our members are involved in almost every type of embroidery, from Bayeux stitching through to contemporary fibre arts.
·      No prior experience of stitching is necessary; we welcome everyone from absolute beginners to experienced stitchers. Our members are very happy to help less experienced stitchers explore our craft and formal workshops are regularly available.
·      Visitors are invited to attend a meeting or two, to stitch and chat and find out if they would like become part of our group.

The Renaissance Singers, formed in 1975, is an auditioned choir of 20-30 members who frequently perform a cappella. The choir has a reputation for presenting varied and challenging programmes, comprising modern works as well as works of the Renaissance period and earlier. 2-3 concerts are presented each year. Manawatū Amateur Radio Society (MARS), call sign ZL2KO, was established to promote the hobby of private individuals to communicate by radio. We are Branch 20 of the New Zealand Association of Radio Transmitters (NZART).

We have our own clubrooms, we meet every month, and produce a regular newsletter. If you would like to learn a new skill and have some fun, please come along to a meeting as a visitor – gents, ladies or youngsters of any age are welcome – and see what we do. We run training courses to help you gain your licence, and every year have a sales day for buying and selling second-hand equipment.

An important part of our activities is supporting Search and Rescue through AREC (Amateur Radio Emergency Communications – see www.zl2ko.org.nz/arec/).
 
Amateur Radio, also known as “ham radio”, is about experimenting and communicating, using not only radio, but a range of technologies including satellites, the Internet and even beams of light! In New Zealand, hams are licensed by Radio Spectrum Management (RSM). Once licensed, an amateur can operate two-way radio equipment from home, from vehicles and from anywhere in New Zealand and, in many cases, when overseas too. The possibilities are endless, from sending TV pictures and operating through amateur radio satellites, to just having a quiet chat with friends at a distance.

Menzshed Manawatu was formed in 2011. It exists primarily for retired men to share their experiences and skills while working on a variety of projects – at this stage mainly woodworking. While men are welcome to work on projects for themselves, a lot of the satisfaction comes from being part of community projects – often  providing something  to assist another community group to carry out their work.

At the heart of the Menzshed philosophy is men’s health and welfare, and the Shed gives them a “happy place”. Although access to tools may be a drawcard, companionship is what keeps members attending. The Shed reminds men that they are not alone, and that although their days of paid employment may be over, there can still be reasons to get out of bed in the morning, and have fun and fellowship at the same time.

Established in the Manawatū in 2000. While U3A stands for "University of the Third Age", we are not a university in the modern sense: no qualifications, no exams. We are a community of older people who seek a greater understanding of life. Taps the reservoir of knowledge, skills and experience of older people through self-help learning. Provides opportunities for reading, research, discussions and field trips. The atmosphere for learning is informal and friendly. There are no compulsory activities or examinations. Costs are minimal.

We meet in small learning groups (usually less than 15 people). We currently have over 40 interest groups. Each group has a coordinator who organises and oversees the group. Groups meet in members’ homes, in libraries, art galleries, other spaces. Several groups have also been meeting online (eg Zoom, email). You may join as many groups as you like (there are waiting lists for some groups). Sometimes we go on visits, for example to art galleries, museums.

In addition to the groups we usually run two seminar series each year with themes of general interest.

The Manawatū County Club, based in Palmerston North, was established in November 1928. It welcomes women of all ages, professions, ethnicity and educational backgrounds to participate in a diverse program of informative, stimulating and social activities, both at the Club Rooms and at selected offsite venues.

Within the Club are many interest Groups. These include Gardening, Antiques and Collectibles, Music, Arts and Travel, Bridge, Bolivia, Mah Jong and Oral History. They each develop their own annual program of activities. All members are encouraged to belong to those groups which interest them. There is also a program of key annual events and two luncheons, with interesting speakers, are held at the Club each month. 

The Club offers a warm and welcoming environment in comfortable surroundings for individual members and groups to meet, find friendship and support, share interests and participate in a range of social activities.

Scottish country dancing is a social form of dance with its roots in the communal rural dances of Britain.  

Unlike Highland dancing, Scottish country is in groups of six to eight people, is much more relaxed, there are no bagpipes, and kilts are definitely not required.  All you need are soft-soled shoes, the ability to count to eight, and time to come along to have fun accompanied by lively Celtic music.  

No partner is required, but you can certainly bring a friend if you wish!  

Beginners are always welcome – tuition is given.

We are a group of people who have a love of folk music and meet on a regular basis to share the music that we know and also what we have been learning. We have regular club nights where we have the chance to perform music in a sing-around format, this night usually has a theme and we get the chance to perform a couple of songs/tunes related/inspired by the theme (the Events Calendar is available on our website). You may perform solo, or in any sized group you prefer, or invite everyone to join in with you.

We also have concert nights where guest artists, national or international, come along and perform for us. These are top quality musicians and they always put on a great night!

On regular club nights we have a door charge of: $3 for club members; and $5 for non members; FREE for school children and ‘first-timers’. On concert nights the entry price is higher.

members, and we meet twice weekly to play bridge. Our players range in age and bridge experience, from very new players to very experienced players.

Our collection been built up since the 1959 by the Palmerston North Art Gallery Society, renamed as the Manawatū Art Gallery Society and more recently known as Te Manawa Art Society. The collection is housed in the art gallery storerooms at Te Manawa Museum, alongside an art collection owned by the Te Manawa Museum Trust. As custodians of our collection, Te Manawa Museum provides a variety of opportunities for the community to view and appreciate the works in our collection.

Palmerston North Brass Band is the oldest organisation in Palmerston North, technically pre-dating Palmerston North City itself! Established in 1868, we have been providing entertainment to Palmerston North residents for over 150 years.

We play a wide range of music, from classical, traditional brass band pieces, right through to arrangements of pop songs. We get involved in community events as frequently as possible, and you may have seen us at Relay for Life, Anzac Day services, Explore Esplanade Days, in the Christmas Parade, or just popping up for a spontaneous performance around town!

In addition to our brass band, we also facilitate lessons for anyone who wants to learn a brass instrument and run an 'academy band' for learners to try playing in a band setting without the pressure of being in a full band.

The Club supports and encourages jazz musicians and their audiences by holding public concerts on the second Sunday of the month. The Club and Rodger Fox organise annual Manawatu International Jazz and Blues Festivals, featuring local, national and leading international artists. The Club celebrated the fiftieth year of the Festivals in June, 2018. 

A feature of the Festival is a competition for high-school students playing in Big Bands and jazz combos, which supports and encourages these young players to be the artists of the future. 

Club members enjoy discounted tickets for the monthly concerts and Jazz and Blues Festivals.

SÁBADOS TEATREROS (ST) is a drama education group for Spanish-speaking children from 5 to 15 years old in the Palmerston North area. The program was started in June 2021 by Dr Maria Gomez-Lozano, who started weekly drama lessons for 12 children aged 5-10 years old. 
The lessons are exclusively done in Spanish with the aim of promoting the use of their mother tongue among the Latin American and Hispanic community. However,  any child learning Spanish, independent of their ethnicity is welcome.

We are a Sequence Dancing Club. A Sequence dance is a partner dance in which all couples on the floor perform the same steps at the same time. Steps from Ballroom Dancing make up the sequence. Maxina, Gypsy Tap, Swing Waltz are a few of the many Sequence dances. This popular form of dancing gives a lot of enjoyment as well as healthy exercise for young and old, produces grace, poise, and balance. Sequence dancing is stimulating and challenging.

The Awapuni Garden Club was started in 1978 and today is well supported with 100 members. The club is a friendly group of people who like to share garden knowledge and are keen to learn more about plants, seeds, gardening etc. At the monthly meetings we have a guest speaker, a sales table, a raffle and a home grown vegetables, fruit and flower competition.
