Our group was founded in 1947 and is affiliated with the New Zealand Rose Society (Inc). Our motto is to implant the roses in the hearts and gardens of the people of New Zealand. We do this by sharing information and knowledge on how to grow good roses in the Manawatū region. This is done through our newsletter and other publications, meetings with guest speakers and demonstrations and visits to gardens and other places of interest. Members also have a wide range of other garden interests besides roses so they are also incorporated into our events.

Alliance Française Palmerston North is a well-known French language and cultural centre located on the first floor of the Square Edge Creative Centre. It is one of the oldest cultural organisations, established in Palmerston North under the name of ‘Cercle Français’ in 1949. 

Alliance Française is a NZ registered charity which actively promotes interest in French language and culture. Our mission is to encourage the study of French language; to raise awareness of French and French-speaking cultures in all their dimensions; to foster cultural, intellectual, artistic and friendly exchanges between  French-speaking world and local communities; and to promote cultural diversity by highlighting all cultures.

Alliance Française offers and supports continued learning both in and out of the classroom by offering French courses for all ages and levels, cultural events, a French community library and official language diplomas.

Alliance Française supports refugees and migrants from different backgrounds and cultures, in particular French-speaking, by providing literacy and numeracy classes, as well as English classes. We facilitate social interaction and mutual exchanges with the local community.

Alliance Française also supports teachers in schools by offering competitions, workshops, professional development, and exams.

The Lavender Society is an 18+ club for LGBTQ+ adults and their allies to meet new people and hopefully make new friends. The activities vary depending on numbers and the interest of the group.

The Manawatū Scottish Society (Inc) was established in 1925. Its mission statement is to foster Celtic Heritage through the promotion of Celtic literature, customs and accomplishments, and social interaction within New Zealand. This is achieved through promoting three Pipe Bands and Scottish Country Dancing based in the Society’s Hall, which is available for hire to approved hirers. In addition, the Society hosts the Jenny Mair Highland Square Day, now in its 44th year, and the Claidheamh’mor and Targe Solo Invitational Piping Contest, now in its 39th year.

We have four tennis courts available for play, all constructed of  all-weather Astroturf, plus a practice wall. The club shares the community centre building with numerous other users, but it retains its own equipment cupboard for storing tennis balls and other belongings.  It is set out in the pleasant surroundings of Awapuni Park. We offer membership to all over 17 years, with the emphasis on social tennis, rather than competitive or interclub tournaments. The club was formed in 1973 arising from housing developments which took place in that area in the 1960s and early 1970s.

We’re a group of people who enjoy all types of cycling and our aim is to help you add to your enjoyment of cycling too – be that for sport, recreation, commuting, health or even a way of helping the environment by cycling more and using the car less.

Back in 2016, local cycling enthusiasts headed by Steve Stannard, decided it would be a good idea to have an international professional cycling event in the Manawatū North Island region of New Zealand. That first event was called, the “Gravel and Tar” and quickly gained a national and international reputation for its challenging parcours amidst the breathtaking scenery of the Manawatū.

Although not unique, there are very few international road cycling events that combine smooth road surfaces with stretches of other surfaces such as gravel, or in the case of the world famous Paris-Roubaix in France, cobbles. Colloquially, the Gravel and Tar has become known as the “Paris-Roubaix of the South”.

In 2019, a race for women, “The Gravel and Tar La Femme” was introduced, which in 2020 became one of the first cycling events in the world to pay equal prize money with the men’s event.

Seeing the increasing interest in competitive cycling for amateurs, the Slicks and Stones was then introduced to feature various distances and e-bike categories to encourage more people to participate.

And in 2019, the organising committee for these two events morphed into the Greasy Chain Charitable Trust with the goal of “Encouraging all New Zealanders to become healthier through regular cycling.”

Toastmasters is a great way to help you to improve your speaking and leadership abilities in a small group .You will be mentored and supported by the other members as you work through the Toastmasters Pathways Program.

Our members join for different reasons but they all want to become more confident and competent when speaking to others. We can help you to do that at the pace that suits you.

We are based at IPU in Palmerston North and we have members from all over the world. Our members include IPU students and local residents.

Toastmasters holds regular competitions, conferences and leadership training to develop your skills and meet other people with common interests.

The Manawatu Tramping & Skiing Club is the oldest tramping and skiing club in the Manawatu. We have an active membership partaking in day tramps on Wednesdays and Thursdays, overnight tramps at weekends and various other outdoor activities.
The Club is an affiliated member of the Federation of Mountain Clubs of New Zealand (FMC).
The club has a lodge in the Iwikau Village on Mt Ruapehu that can accommodate 32 people in bunkrooms that sleep between 4 to 6 people. We have all the comforts of home; two lounges, hot showers, drying rooms, ski and board maintenance area, WiFi/Broadband Internet access and all the other refinements to make an enjoyable atmosphere. Most food is provided at the lodge. Those using it share food preparation and lodge housekeeping tasks.
The lodge accommodates members, guests and school groups by arrangement.

The Palmerston North Bridge Club was established in 1946 as a membership club for those who enjoy duplicate bridge. Duplicate bridge is a partnership game that requires prior knowledge of the game (i.e. you have to have learnt how to play, probably in formal classes). We run 5 playing sessions a week – targeting different levels of the game of bridge - and also provide a 12 week class for those wishing to learn to play the game.  The Club is affiliated to New Zealand Bridge and takes part in an annual programme of national tournaments and events.

The Club has rooms on Cuba Street consisting of a large hall and a smaller hall with full kitchen facilities. It is available for hire to suitable groups for suitable purposes!

Crows Feet Dance Collective PN is a fun, contemporary, creative-based dance project for adults. We cover basic technique and fitness and explore a range of dance styles and approaches, using contemporary dance as the core style. Meet a welcoming, friendly group of people who love to dance and have fun! For all, including beginners to dance.

Formed in 1996, the Manawatunes are a chorus of men who love singing. We sing acapella harmony, much in the barbershop style, but we also explore a range of other acapella music. We try to have a variety of music in our repertoire; from classic “Polecats” (cornerstones of the Barbershop genre) to arrangements of more contemporary numbers. We were the Barbershop Harmony New Zealand Champion Small Chorus in 2019, 2018, 2014, 2010 and 1999 and hopefully there will be further exciting news coming from our partnership with BHNZ in 2021. The Manawatunes meet to rehearse each Wednesday evening at St Davids Church Hall on Rainforth Street, and are delighted to have this opportunity to share our harmony with the public after a year where a number of our opportunities have dried up. Welcome to the Manawatū Amateur Radio Society! As Branch 20 of the New Zealand Association of Radio Transmitters (NZART), we proudly operate under the callsign ZL2KO for all our club activities.

The Awapuni Garden Club was started in 1978 and today is well supported with 100 members. Inner Wheel Manawatu Central Connection is welcoming, friendly and fun women’s club whose focus is:  Friendship, Personal Service and International Understanding. Established 2010 and currently have 26 members. Our club consists of women, ranging in age from 40 onwards, but we welcome women of any age. We have monthly meetings, on the first Wednesday of every month starting at 7.30pm. Our meetings are varied and range from having interesting guest speakers to holding our own craft/activity nights to support our local charities, always followed with a friendly catch up and supper. These meetings are interspersed with Club night out to a variety of local venues and activities such as the movies, restaurants, garden visits and a variety of other places of interest to the members.

We support various charities - PN Neonates with Cuddle Hearts and knitting, Marion Kennedy Centre, Plunket, Butterfly Compassion Community; to name a few.

Volunteer Central is an independent not-for-profit organisation that supports our community by making Connections: We match people looking for volunteer opportunities with organisations that need volunteers. Based on a skills matching system, we are able to conduct successful referrals.

We also work in three other fronts:

*Awareness: We aim to raise awareness around volunteering and its positive impact on individuals, organisations, communities, and our country.  We do this by attending and hosting events. We are a group of people who have a love of folk music and meet on a regular basis to share the music that we know and also what we have been learning. We have regular club nights where we have the chance to perform music in a sing-around format, this night usually has a theme and we get the chance to perform a couple of songs/tunes related/inspired by the theme (the Events Calendar is available on our website). You may perform solo, or in any sized group you prefer, or invite everyone to join in with you.

We also have concert nights where guest artists, national or international, come along and perform for us. These are top quality musicians and they always put on a great night!

On regular club nights we have a door charge of: $3 for club members; and $5 for non members; FREE for school children and ‘first-timers’. On concert nights the entry price is higher.
