Awapuni Tennis Club

We have four tennis courts available for play, all constructed of all-weather Astroturf, plus a practice wall. The club shares the community centre building with numerous other users, but it retains its own equipment cupboard for storing tennis balls and other belongings. It is set out in the pleasant surroundings of Awapuni Park. We offer membership to all over 17 years, with the emphasis on social tennis, rather than competitive or interclub tournaments. The club was formed in 1973 arising from housing developments which took place in that area in the 1960s and early 1970s.

How to Join

As we don't have any junior club activities at present, we offer membership to anyone who is over 17 years old and has some playing ability. We don't currently have coaching facilities. All you need to do is come along and talk to one of the members and we can give you more information about the club and a membership form.

Membership Fees

Our membership fees are currently $60.00 per year, which enables you access to the courts on any of our playing days. There are no extra charges for balls or any other equipment. All you need to provide is a racquet, sunscreen and a hat during the warmer months, and water to keep hydrated. We have tap water available in the community centre.

When and where we meet

We meet every Saturday from 1.30pm onwards until around 5.00pm, and on Tuesday evenings from 4pm to 7pm during daylight saving, but limited to 5pm during winter months. Players do not have to arrive at the start time. You can come later and finish earlier if you so wish.

Our courts are located behind the Awapuni Community Centre in Newbury Street, where there is plenty of off-street parking. There is access for cyclists and pedestrians from Rugby and Winchester Street accesses to Awapuni Park.
