Hokowhitu Village Centre
Established in 2011, Hokowhitu Village Centre (HVC) is nestled in the heart of Hokowhitu Village at 356 Albert Street. We are a voluntary organisation of people working together to foster friendship and to strengthen our community. You can come along and chat with one of our Volunteers who work in pairs for two-hour shifts.
We have an excellent library of good quality donated books, jigsaws, DVDs and children’s books available for anyone to borrow. Excess stock is sold to supplement funds for running the Centre ($2 per book or 3 for $5). Check out our book trolley daily, or visit on the 3rd Sunday of the month during the market.
The Manawatū Standard is provided daily. Justice of the Peace services are available each Thursday 10.30 am to 12.30 pm. We have a monthly afternoon tea on the 3rd Tuesday, and a Knit and natter group on 2nd and 4th Thursday. Our activities have been restricted during covid but we are gradually getting started again from October 2022 onwards. Contact us for more details, or follow us on Facebook.
We are accredited by Sport Manawatu to offer Strength and Balance classes. These are on Thursdays at 9.30 in the St Alban's Church Hall, corner St Alban's Street and Albert Street. New members are welcome. Contact Helen on 027 444 8215, or chair@hokowhituvillagecentre.net.nz
Our venue is available for hire for meetings and activities. Contact bookings@hokowhituvillagecentre.net.nz
We are responsible for Hokowhitu Hidden Books, hiding children's books in playgrounds and parks for them to discover. They can keep the book, or re-hide it for someone else to find. In this way we encourage the enjoyment of reading, while also getting books into homes. Follow Hokowhitu Hidden books on Facebook.
